The Los Angeles Chargers are preparing for the upcoming season, which brings a combination of new and returning talent. An important part of their strategy is evaluating key players who will contribute significantly to the team’s performance.
As part of a series leading up to training camp, the spotlight is on running back Najee Harris, ranked No. 16 among the team’s most critical players for the 2025 season.
Harris, who is 27 years old and entering his fifth season in the league, has shown remarkable consistency since he was drafted in 2021. Last season, he stood out by finishing third in the conference with 263 carries and fourth in rushing yards with 1,043. Notably, he achieved the highest total scrimmage yards of his career at 1,326, a number he last reached during his Pro Bowl season in 2021. Additionally, he showcased his explosive ability by recording nine rushes of 20 yards or more, ranking fifth in the NFL, while also leading the Steelers with six total touchdowns.
For the 2025 season, the Chargers aim to enhance their running game efficiency, especially after some struggles in the previous year under new offensive coordinator Greg Roman. Injuries to key players like Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins limited their contributions. The acquisition of Harris, known for his durability and ability to play through adversity—having never missed a game in his career—was a strategic move. Harris has maintained a level of performance with at least 284 touches in each of his prior four seasons and is the only active player in the NFL with over 1,000 rushing yards for four consecutive years. His role will be pivotal in improving the ground game alongside promising rookie Omarion Hampton.
The big question heading into the new season is whether Harris can maintain his high level of play and provide the much-needed boost to the Chargers’ rushing offense.
As the countdown to training camp continues, fans can look forward to more insights on the team’s key players. Among those already highlighted are offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman, linebacker Junior Colson, and tight end Oronde Gadsden II, each integral to the team’s prospects in 2025.
This rebuilding year could be an exciting opportunity for Harris and the Chargers to shine, capitalizing on both individual talents and dynamic teamwork.
