Chappell Roan’s Enchanting Medieval VMA Debut Sets the Stage Ablaze!

Chappell Roan made a striking debut at the MTV Video Music Awards, embracing a medieval theme as she performed in front of a castle backdrop. Arriving on the red carpet with a sword and flanked by a medieval guard, she set the stage for a dramatic performance. During her act, Roan shot a flaming arrow at the castle, igniting it as she launched into her song “Good Luck Babe” from her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.

With swords clashing around her, Roan delivered an intense rendition of her song amidst smoke and flames, dropping to her knees to powerfully sing the bridge. The lyrics captured themes of heartbreak and resilience as she reflected on a past relationship.

Sasha Colby introduced Roan with an empowering speech, emphasizing the inclusiveness of pop music. “Pop music is inclusive. No matter who you love, it’s meant for everyone,” she stated before welcoming Roan to the stage as “your favorite drag queen’s favorite artist.”

Roan is among three finalists for Best New Artist at this year’s VMAs, competing against Gracie Abrams and Tyla. She also received nominations for MTV Push Performance of the Year and Best Trending Video, as well as Song of the Summer for “Good Luck, Babe.”

In addition to her VMA nominations, Roan is featured on the cover of Rolling Stone’s October issue, where she discussed the doubts she faced from others as she built her career. “It feels so good to prove them wrong,” she shared, adding that it’s gratifying to have her instincts validated. She also expressed her frustration about not being taken seriously until recently, declaring that she has been working hard and is glad to finally gain recognition.
