Chappell Roan Shuts Down Photographer at VMAs and Takes Home a Moon Person!

Chappell Roan made a striking impression at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, not only with her medieval-themed outfit featuring a sword and a rug but also through a memorable exchange on the red carpet that went viral.

In a video of the incident, a photographer shouted at the rising pop star while she was posing for pictures outside UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, demanding she “Shut the f–k up.” Roan responded directly, retorting, “You shut the f–k up,” and added, “Not me, b—h,” while wagging her finger at the photographer before continuing to pose as the crowd erupted in cheers.

Discussing her experience after the incident, Roan expressed her feelings to Entertainment Tonight, stating, “For someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying, and I yelled back. You don’t get to yell at me like that.”

Inside the venue, Roan’s night improved significantly as she won her first MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist. Upon receiving the award, she joyfully exclaimed, “Can you believe it? We’re at the VMAs!” During her emotional acceptance speech, Roan dedicated the award to the LGBTQ+ community and her supporters, highlighting the influence of drag artists on her journey. “I dedicate this to all the drag artists who inspire me… for all the queer kids in the Midwest watching right now, I see you. I understand you, because I am one of you,” she said.

Before receiving her Moon Person, Roan delivered a powerful performance of her hit song “Good Luck, Babe!” clad in armor, dramatically lighting a castle on fire with a flaming crossbow while maintaining her pitch-perfect vocals. The track had recently climbed to number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In addition to her victory, Roan was nominated for Push Performance of the Year for “Red Wine Supernova” and Song of the Summer for “Good Luck, Babe!”
