Chad Johnson Sparks Debate: Is FAMU the New King of Tallahassee Football?

Florida State football faced its second straight defeat on Monday night, prompting former NFL player Chad Johnson to voice his concerns, suggesting that Florida A&M University (FAMU) may currently be the superior team.

During his podcast “Nightcap,” co-hosted with Shannon Sharpe, Johnson expressed his frustration following FSU’s 28-13 loss in a prime-time Labor Day matchup.

“As a resident of Florida, I’m embarrassed. I’m embarrassed,” Johnson declared. “The best team in Tallahassee is FAMU.” Both Florida State and FAMU are located in Tallahassee, Florida.

Johnson asserted, “FAMU might beat Florida State, based on what I saw tonight.”

Florida State kicked off the season with a narrow loss to ACC rival Georgia Tech, followed by the recent home defeat against Boston College. In contrast, FAMU boasts a 2-0 record after narrowly overcoming challenges from Norfolk State and South Carolina State.

Chad Johnson, who is recognized for his vibrant personality, has a deep-rooted connection to HBCUs, particularly FAMU. Growing up in Miami, Johnson has consistently praised FAMU’s rich cultural heritage. His involvement with the university extends beyond simple fan support; he frequently attends events, promotes FAMU on social media, and is often seen wearing their merchandise. Johnson’s advocacy reflects a broader commitment to supporting HBCUs, acknowledging their important role in education and cultural preservation, thus helping elevate their visibility on a national level.
