“Chad Johnson Sparks Debate: Is FAMU Florida’s Best Team?”

Florida State University football faced its second consecutive loss on Monday night, leading to notable criticism from former NFL player Chad Johnson, who suggested that Florida A&M University (FAMU) may currently be the stronger team.

Following FSU’s defeat against Boston College by a score of 28-13 in a prime-time Labor Day matchup, Johnson expressed his discontent on his podcast, Nightcap, which he co-hosts with Shannon Sharpe. He stated, “As a resident of the state of Florida, I’m embarrassed. I’m embarrassed. The best team in Tallahassee is FAMU.”

He further commented, “FAMU might beat Florida State, based on what I saw tonight,” reflecting his disappointment in the Seminoles’ performance.

Florida State started its season with a narrow loss to Georgia Tech in Week Zero, followed by the home loss to Boston College. Meanwhile, FAMU has begun its season with a 2-0 record, overcoming close matches against Norfolk State and South Carolina State.

Chad Johnson, known for his colorful personality, has a longstanding affinity for HBCUs, particularly FAMU. Having grown up in Miami, he often shares his praise for FAMU’s cultural significance and frequently attends their events while promoting the university on social media. Johnson’s advocacy highlights the importance of HBCUs and aims to enhance their visibility on a national level.
