Chad Johnson Sparks Controversy: Is FAMU the New King of Tallahassee?

Florida State University’s football team faced its second straight loss on Monday night, leading to frustration from Chad Johnson, a former NFL star and current podcaster, who suggested that Florida A&M University (FAMU) might currently outperform FSU.

After Florida State’s 28-13 defeat during a prime-time Labor Day matchup, Johnson expressed his disappointment on his show, Nightcap, which he co-hosts with Shannon Sharpe. “As a resident of Florida, I’m embarrassed. I’m embarrassed,” Johnson remarked, implying that FAMU might be the top team in Tallahassee.

Both institutions are situated in Tallahassee, FL. “Based on what I saw tonight, FAMU might beat Florida State,” Johnson stated, reflecting his strong sentiments.

Florida State began their season with a narrow loss to Georgia Tech and followed that with another defeat at home against Boston College. In contrast, FAMU has started the season strong with two victories over Norfolk State and South Carolina State.

Chad Johnson, recognized for his lively personality, has a long-standing connection to HBCUs, especially Florida A&M University. Having grown up in Miami, he often shares his appreciation for FAMU’s cultural significance and is known to attend their events, promote the school on social media, and don their apparel. His advocacy illustrates a broader dedication to supporting HBCUs and emphasizes their importance in education and cultural heritage. Johnson’s visibility helps enhance the national profile of these institutions.
