Central Ohio Braces for Winter Weather Advisory Ahead of Weekend Snow

The National Weather Service has placed a “Winter Weather Advisory” in effect for several counties in central Ohio, starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday and continuing until 9 a.m. on Sunday. The counties impacted include Delaware, Miami, Champaign, Clark, Madison, Franklin, Preble, Montgomery, Greene, Butler, and Warren.

Residents can expect another chilly night with temperatures dipping into the low 20s, while wind chills might feel as low as the mid-teens. Although winds will be relatively calm overnight, they are forecasted to pick up as a storm system approaches Central Ohio.

Looking ahead, Friday’s weather is anticipated to be mostly cloudy and cold, with highs reaching 34 degrees and potential flurries or light snow in the northern regions. Tonight, conditions will be partly cloudy with light winds and a low of 22 degrees.

On Saturday, skies will remain mostly cloudy with afternoon snow showers expected, while the high will reach around 36 degrees. Sunday will bring a wintry mix in the morning transitioning to rain, with a high of 39 degrees.

The forecast for the following days includes cloudy skies and a slight chance of snow. Monday may see a late chance for snow with a high of 33 degrees, followed by cloudy conditions and snow showers on Tuesday, with temperatures hovering around 34 degrees. The week will round out with mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance for light snow on Thursday, with high temperatures near 35 degrees.

With the potentially accumulating snow of 1-4 inches expected before transitioning to rain, residents are advised to exercise caution on the roads, especially overnight when temperatures are forecasted to remain below freezing, increasing the risk of icy conditions. The snow is likely to start in the afternoon, particularly north of I-70 around 2 p.m., with heavier snowfall expected between 8 and 9 p.m. Overnight, the snow will become more scattered, and as warmer air moves in, a changeover to rain is anticipated early on Sunday morning between 4-9 a.m. This weather pattern might lead to slushy remnants by the end of the storm.

Cold and wintry conditions are expected to persist throughout the upcoming week, with another system predicted to bring additional snowfall Monday night into Tuesday, reinforcing winter’s grip on the region as we head toward next weekend.
