Celtics Re-Sign RJ Luis to Exhibit 10, Hinting at a Maine Celtics Path

Just a few days after waiving RJ Luis from a two-way contract, the Boston Celtics are set to re-sign him to an Exhibit 10 deal, as reported by Noa Dalzell of CLNS and CelticsBlog.com. Following this move, Luis is expected to be waived again and will then join the Maine Celtics to start the 2025/26 season. The terms of his Exhibit 10 contract will allow him to earn a bonus of up to $85,300 if he remains with Boston’s G League affiliate for at least 60 days.

Luis had a standout junior season at St. John’s, where he was honored as the Big East Player of the Year. Throughout the season, he averaged 18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.4 steals in 35 games, while posting shooting percentages of .439 from the field, .336 from three-point range, and .747 from the charity stripe.

The 22-year-old wing opted to turn down significant NIL offers to return to college, but unfortunately, he went undrafted in June, making him an unrestricted free agent. Prior to the draft, he was ranked No. 56 on ESPN’s big board and No. 58 on Sam Vecenie of The Athletic’s list. Shortly after the draft, he signed a two-way deal with the Utah Jazz but was later traded to the Celtics in August, with Boston sending two second-round picks in exchange for taking on Georges Niang’s contract.

Luis was waived by the Celtics to make room for Ron Harper Jr. to be promoted to a two-way deal. This new opportunity may provide Luis with a fresh start and a chance to showcase his skills in the coming season, supporting his aspirations for a successful professional basketball career.
