U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins led a powerful day at the Great American Farmers Market held on the National Mall yesterday, focusing on themes of faith, gratitude, and community service within the agricultural sector. The event, termed “Faith and Fellowship Tuesday,” included notable attendance from Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Scott Turner, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins, and USDA Senior Advisor on Faith and Community Outreach Dr. Alveda King.

The program featured inspiring remarks from various leaders, including Pastor Jentezen Franklin and Rabbi Levi Shemtov. Musical performances added to the uplifting atmosphere, with the Free Chapel Band and headlining artist Danny Gokey providing entertainment throughout the evening.

Looking ahead, today’s events will pivot to an essential theme, “Forest and Firefighters: Protecting America’s Legacy.” This program will emphasize wildfire readiness and pay tribute to the brave individuals who defend America’s natural landscapes. Activities will include a standout performance by LOCASH, a special Smokey Bear Birthday Bash, and opportunities to learn valuable wildfire safety tips. Attendees can enjoy a hands-on experience by climbing aboard a firetruck and participating in a scavenger hunt filled with exciting prizes.

Visitors to the event will also have the chance to engage with the National Forest Foundation to explore the importance of forests, and children can receive a complimentary Superhero Comic Book from Visa that focuses on financial literacy.

In honor of National Farmers Market Week, attendees are encouraged to support local farmers’ markets across the country, with resources available through the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service, which connects consumers with over 8,600 markets nationwide.

Secretary Rollins expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the sponsors that made this significant event possible, including Chobani, John Deere, Tractor Supply Company, and Visa. This event not only highlights the importance of agriculture in America but also fosters community spirit and resilience in the face of challenges such as wildfires.
