Celebrating 50 Years: Arkansas State Unveils Women’s Basketball All-50 Year Team!

Arkansas State University is set to kick off its 14-game home basketball schedule against Mississippi Valley State on November 13 at 6:00 p.m. The game will take place at the First National Bank Arena, and fans can catch the action live on 95.3/95.9 The Ticket Radio Network or stream it on ESPN+.

In a special moment for its women’s basketball program, Arkansas State University unveiled its All-50 Year Team on Wednesday. This initiative is part of a celebration marking 50 years of women’s sports at the university. The team boasts notable achievements, including 12 all-conference selections, six inductees into the A-State Athletics Hall of Honor, three Sun Belt Conference Players of the Year, two All-American honorees, and a second-round WNBA draft pick.

The women’s basketball program commenced in the 1974-75 season under Kay Woodiel, who also led women’s volleyball and tennis. The inaugural season saw the team playing 10 matches, finishing with a 2-8 record. Notably, the following year, they improved to 16-7, indicating a promising start for women’s sports at the university.

As part of the ongoing celebration of women’s sports, the program will highlight its 50th anniversary through the 2024-25 home game slate, including a special Ladies Day game on December 7 when they face Jackson State.

The storied history of the women’s program includes numerous standout players who set records and achieved significant milestones, from scoring achievements to defensive statistics.
