Steve Bertrand, the afternoon news anchor at WGN Radio, marks a significant milestone as he celebrates his 40th anniversary with the station today. Over the years, Bertrand has made his mark by hosting various programs and anchoring news on virtually every part of the schedule since he joined WGN Radio. His journey began as an intern, ultimately leading to a full-time role in 1985, and he has been the face of the news anchor desk since 1992.

Mary Sandberg Boyle, the station’s VP and general manager, praised Bertrand for his deep-rooted connection with the WGN Radio audience, saying, “Steve has shared his entire broadcasting career with the WGN Radio audience and built respect, trust, and friendships along the way. It’s a special relationship and four decades deserves recognition.”

In reflecting on his remarkable career, Bertrand shared, “Growing up in a small town, I always had my eye on moving to the big city. Never during those years of daydreaming would I have imagined the career I’ve had at WGN Radio. I have worked with, and still do work with, some of the best in radio. I’m so grateful. And lucky. Back in the day, many people might have considered my fantasy a pipe dream. But, it turns out, dreams can come true.”

This anniversary not only highlights Bertrand’s dedication but also serves as an inspiring reminder that persistence and passion can lead to fulfilling one’s dreams. The connection he has fostered with listeners over the decades is a testament to the power of local broadcasting and the lasting impact of a dedicated professional.
