June is recognized as Pride Month, and Washington, D.C.’s Capital Pride Alliance is gearing up for WorldPride on Saturday, June 7. This global festival aims to elevate LGBTQ+ visibility and awareness, drawing thousands of attendees from all over the country.

The event celebrates the rich history of LGBTQ+ communities in the nation’s capital and honors the continuous fight for equality. “This beloved tradition honors our history and acknowledges the evolution of the LGBTQ+ neighborhoods in Washington, DC, while respecting the origins and importance of taking to the streets in our fight for equality,” states the event’s website.

WorldPride, which commenced on May 17, features a variety of festivities, including musical performances, fashion shows, and discussions tailored to various sub-communities, such as Trans Pride, Latinx Pride, and Youth Pride.

The highlight of the festival is the Pride Parade, scheduled for June 7, which will be followed by a massive rally and march from the Lincoln Memorial to the U.S. Capitol on June 8.

For those planning to attend the DC Pride Parade in 2025, the parade will kick off at 2 p.m. from 14th and T Streets NW, proceed through Thomas Circle, and turn onto Pennsylvania Avenue, concluding near the Navy Memorial.

Participants should be aware of the road closures and parking restrictions in place on June 6 and 7. The Metropolitan Police Department has provided a full list of these closures, which can be accessed through their official channels.

Additionally, Dupont Circle Park will temporarily close from 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, due to a request from the National Park Service for public health and safety reasons.

This year’s celebrations not only highlight the progress made within the LGBTQ+ community but also serve as a reminder of the ongoing journey toward equality and acceptance for all individuals.

Pride Month represents a time of unity, hope, and celebration, showcasing the resilience of the LGBTQ+ community while continuing to advocate for future advancements in equal rights.
