As Canada Day approaches on July 1, 2025, residents and visitors of the Halifax area can look forward to a variety of events and activities designed to celebrate the nation’s birthday. Here’s a brief overview of what to expect.
The highlight of the celebrations will be a fireworks display scheduled for 10 p.m. along the Halifax and Dartmouth waterfronts, provided the weather allows. The Halifax Regional Municipality has organized numerous concerts and events across the city as part of this festive occasion.
For families, the Halifax Commons will host a Family Day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., featuring children’s games and bouncy castles, ensuring that the little ones have plenty of fun. Additionally, several popular attractions, including the Halifax Citadel, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, the Museum of Natural History, and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, will offer free admission for the day.
On the recreational side, municipal outdoor pools and supervised beaches will be open, along with various splash pads in the area. The Emera Oval will also welcome visitors from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., subject to weather conditions.
In terms of shopping, while several grocery stores like Sobeys and Atlantic Superstore will be closed, some independent alcohol retailers and craft breweries will be open for business. However, all major malls and public libraries will be closed.
Public transport will operate on a reduced holiday schedule, with Halifax Transit buses and the Alderney ferry service running, while parking on the streets will be free on Tuesday. Residents should also note that waste collection services will not occur on Canada Day, with adjustments made to collection schedules.
Despite some closures, the day promises to be filled with community spirit and celebration, providing a hopeful and optimistic atmosphere as families come together to honor Canada.
