NTT Data has successfully implemented a managed private 5G network in collaboration with Celona at two Celanese manufacturing plants in Texas. This deployment aims to enhance worker safety, automation, and large-scale connectivity. The initiative is part of NTT Data’s effort to offer an end-to-end private 5G product under its brand, leveraging Celona’s core and RAN components integrated with NTT Data’s cloud management system.
Celanese Corporation, a leading specialty materials and chemical company headquartered in Irving, Texas, is globally recognized as a major producer of acetic acid and vinyl acetate monomer. The deployment encompasses their Clear Lake and Bishop plants in Texas, both critical sites in Celanese’s global operations which include 25 production plants and six research centers across multiple continents.
The new private 5G networks are tailored to cover expansive outdoor production facilities, which present unique operational challenges due to their complexity. The deployment addresses potential signal gaps and connectivity disruptions, thereby ensuring continuous and reliable communication and operations across logistics and production lines.
NTT Data, working closely with Celona, also plans to explore additional IoT use cases and potentially expand these solutions to other Celanese sites globally. As connected workers and digital data collection stand as the initial focus, the collaboration seeks to further advance manufacturing, automation, and industrial efficiency through future use cases.
