CeeDee Lamb Strikes Big Deal: What This Means for the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have reached a multi-year agreement with star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, the team announced on Monday. The contract is a four-year deal worth $136 million, according to reports from ESPN and NFL Network.

This agreement makes Lamb, a three-time Pro Bowler, the second highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, featuring $100 million in guaranteed money.

Lamb had opted out of participating in all of training camp and the Cowboys’ three preseason games as he sought a new contract. He was previously entering the fifth-year option of the rookie deal he signed back in 2017. Lamb was the 17th overall pick in that year’s NFL draft and is now signed through 2028.

The deal concludes what was at times a contentious negotiation process. Earlier in August, Cowboys owner and president Jerry Jones expressed that he felt “no urgency” to finalize a deal with Lamb, which prompted a teasing response from Lamb on social media.

Lamb has consistently delivered impressive performances for the Cowboys, playing in every game over the last four seasons. In 2023, he achieved career highs with 135 receptions, 1,749 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns, setting team records for the first two statistics. During Dallas’s only postseason game last season, Lamb recorded nine receptions for 110 yards.

Throughout his career, Lamb has tallied 395 receptions, 5,145 receiving yards, and 32 touchdowns.

The focus will now shift for the Cowboys towards negotiating a new contract for quarterback Dak Prescott, as his current deal is set to expire soon. Unlike Lamb, Prescott is not under contract for the long term and cannot be franchise-tagged, making him a potential free agent if an agreement is not reached.

The Cowboys are set to kick off their regular season on September 8 against the Cleveland Browns.
