A ceasefire is imperative and must be upheld at all levels of command in order to provide much-needed relief for civilians on both sides of the border. This ceasefire should also ensure the swift and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, no matter where they are.
For months, it has been the civilians who have suffered the most from the ongoing conflict, resulting in numerous casualties and the displacement of over a million individuals in both Lebanon and Israel. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is actively engaged in assisting those affected and aims to establish conditions that allow families to safely return to their homes and begin the process of rebuilding their lives.
In collaboration with partners from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the ICRC is prepared to enhance efforts to distribute essential supplies, including food and hygiene kits. They will also provide medical supplies and technical support to healthcare facilities to ensure they can adequately serve returning families, in addition to aiding the restoration of water and electricity infrastructure.
While the agreement currently in place offers a sense of optimism, the region remains fraught with tension, and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to be dire. In light of this, we strongly urge the immediate adherence to international humanitarian law (IHL) to protect civilians and civilian properties, alongside an uninterrupted and increased flow of humanitarian assistance.
This situation serves as a painful reminder of the urgent need for peace and stability in the region. However, the commitment of humanitarian organizations to aid those in distress highlights a beacon of hope for a future where communities can heal and thrive once again.
Summary: The need for a comprehensive ceasefire to protect civilians and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid is emphasized as the ICRC works to support those affected by ongoing conflict in Lebanon and Israel. Despite the challenges, there is a strong call for international humanitarian laws to be respected and a hopeful outlook for rebuilding lives.
