In a wave of significant staff reductions, CBS News is experiencing job cuts affecting key personnel from its morning program, “CBS Saturday Morning.” Recent reports indicate that co-hosts Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, along with executive producer Brian Applegate, were let go as part of a broader restructuring effort led by parent company Paramount, which has announced plans to cut 1,000 jobs, with another 1,000 layoffs expected soon to achieve savings of $2 billion.
The layoffs reflect a systematic effort by new leadership at Paramount to tighten budgets across various divisions, including CBS and Comedy Central. Notably, John Dickerson, co-anchor of “CBS Evening News,” has also announced his departure from the network, effective at the end of the year.
In an emotional Instagram post, Jacobson confirmed that November 22 would mark her and Miller’s final episode together as co-hosts, expressing excitement for their remaining shows. Jacobson, who has been with CBS News since 2015, previously worked as a sideline reporter and anchor at ESPN. She has reported on significant issues such as sexual abuse cases at major universities and covered tragic events like the Missouri Duck Boat incident in 2018.
Miller joined “CBS Saturday Morning” in 2018 and has over 20 years of experience with CBS News. Throughout her career, she has reported on pivotal moments in American history, including the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and the deaths of George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, and Michael Brown, as well as the Emanuel 9 Massacre in Charleston.
As CBS News navigates these transitions, the contributions of Miller and Jacobson will be remembered by viewers who valued their reporting and engaging presence on the program. The changes could bring new opportunities for the network to refresh its lineup while addressing the challenges posed by the current media landscape.
