Tony Velásquez, spokesperson for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the Caribbean, announced that a review of their records revealed that Ángel Ramón de Jesús Martínez Jiménez is not an employee of the agency. This determination was cross-referenced with a comprehensive federal Justice Department employee list that includes both the DEA and the FBI.

Martínez has portrayed himself on social media as a “researcher and detective,” claiming to hold a doctorate in criminology, as well as positions as an international detective, journalist, author, and president of the U.S. Intelligence Organization based in Washington.

Martínez’s legal troubles escalated when he was arrested on May 26 by the National Police in Puerto Plata while aboard a boat. His arrest followed a bench warrant issued by the Ninth Chamber of the Criminal Court of First Instance of the National District due to his failure to appear at several hearings related to a case filed against him by the president of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), Guido Gómez Mazara.

In addition, empresar Arnulfo de Jesús Gutiérrez Almonte, president of the National Equestrian Association, filed a complaint against Martínez for alleged extortion, blackmail, defamation, public insult, and misuse of digital platforms. Furthermore, communicator Vargavila Riverón has also brought charges against Martínez, accusing him of violating articles 21 and 22 of Law No. 53-07 on Crimes and High Technology Offenses.

Milagros De Camps Germán, former Deputy Minister of Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment, also lodged a defamation and insult complaint against Martínez, to which he publicly apologized. The most recent allegation comes from the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, who accuses him of breaching the same articles of the high technology law and additional provisions of the Dominican Penal Code.

The ongoing legal circumstances surrounding Ángel Martínez highlight the complexities of personal claims versus legal standing, illustrating the serious implications of self-representation in matters of law. It’s a reminder that the legal system must be navigated with professionalism and integrity, something many individuals seek but conflict can often hide behind claims of title and authority.
