Casey Mize: Rising Star Takes All-Star Stage!

Detroit Tigers pitcher Casey Mize has been selected to represent the American League in the upcoming MLB All-Star Game, following the withdrawal of Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet. This announcement was made by Major League Baseball on Friday. The All-Star event is set for 7 p.m. CDT on Tuesday at Truist Park in Atlanta and will be broadcasted on FOX.

Mize, a former standout at Springville High School and Auburn University, boasts an impressive 9-2 record with a 2.63 earned-run average (ERA) from 15 starts this season, leading into his next game against the Seattle Mariners. Over 85.2 innings, he has recorded 73 strikeouts while allowing 80 hits and 21 walks.

With this selection, Mize becomes the eighth Auburn player to make it to the All-Star Game, joining a distinguished group that includes Hall of Famer Frank Thomas, who has recorded the most selections (five). Other notable Auburn alumni in the All-Star Game include Tim Hudson and Josh Donaldson, among others.

This year, Mize not only highlights the talent emerging from Alabama but also stands alongside St. Louis Cardinals’ Brendan Donovan, who is a National League reserve, showcasing a strong representation from the state at the event.

Mize’s journey to this achievement has not been without its challenges. After a promising start in his career, injuries plagued his performance, leading to a two-year hiatus from pitching. However, his return to form this season illustrates resilience and determination, hinting at a bright future ahead.

This All-Star selection not only marks a personal achievement for Mize but also brings hope and pride to both his high school and college communities, serving as inspiration for young athletes everywhere.
