Casemiro at Crossroads as United Mulls Pay Cut Amid Saudi Interest

Casemiro’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain as the club has yet to agree on a new contract for the Brazilian midfielder, leading to speculation about a possible pay cut. His current contract, which runs until June 2026, includes an option for the club to extend it for another year, but recent reports indicate that Manchester United may not exercise this option.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United is contemplating offering Casemiro a new deal with significantly reduced wages, signaling a shift in the club’s financial strategy regarding player salaries. Former financial adviser Stefan Borson has remarked that for the 33-year-old to remain at the club, he would likely need to accept a “big” pay cut, potentially impacting his decision on whether to stay or explore opportunities elsewhere.

The landscape for Casemiro’s future is complicated by interest from Saudi Pro League clubs who are monitoring his situation closely. Borson noted that if he were to move on a free transfer, the midfielder would need to consider options beyond just Manchester United, particularly given the lucrative offers coming from the Middle East.

Respected former scout Mick Brown has indicated that Saudi clubs are poised to make competitive offers for the midfielder, which could further complicate Manchester United’s negotiations. Currently, Casemiro earns around £375,000 per week, a figure that could be nonviable for United moving forward.

Despite these uncertainties, Casemiro has been a crucial player for the team recently, starting seven of his eight appearances this season, which could be a significant factor in his decision-making process. His recent return to the Brazil national team may also encourage him to seek regular playing time, which he is finding at Old Trafford.

As Manchester United evaluates its approach to player contracts and wages, Casemiro’s situation highlights broader questions about the club’s financial management and strategy for maintaining a competitive squad while navigating the changing dynamics of player salaries.
