Carson City, NV – Starting July 1, 2025, the Carson City Fire Department will implement fire restrictions across both city-owned and private lands to combat the heightened risk of wildfires caused by increasing temperatures, winds, and dry vegetation.
Residents and visitors are urged to enjoy the local public lands responsibly, recognizing that human-caused fires pose a persistent threat to life, property, and the environment during the summer months. This warning comes as the region braces for another potential fire season, where the risk of devastating wildfires remains a significant concern.
Motor vehicle enthusiasts are reminded that hot exhaust systems have the potential to ignite dry grasses, further elevating fire risks. If residents spot any fires, they should contact the Carson City Dispatch Center immediately by dialing 911.
The following fire restrictions will be enforced:
– Building or using any type of fire outdoors, including campfires and stoves using wood or charcoal, is prohibited outside developed fee campgrounds or picnic areas, unless a permit is obtained.
– Smoking is banned in all areas containing combustible vegetation, such as grass, brush, and weeds.
– Operating vehicles or equipment off the designated paved, gravel, or dirt roads is restricted.
– Welding and the use of an acetylene torch with open flames require a permit.
– The possession or use of any explosives is also restricted, barring specific permits.
– Fireworks and incendiary devices are strictly prohibited.
– Tracer rounds, steel-core ammunition, or exploding targets during recreational shooting are not allowed.
– Open burning, including yard debris, is outlawed.
In addition to Carson City’s restrictions, several state and federal agencies, including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), are implementing similar bans, with more details available on the BLM’s website. Currently, the BLM has enacted Stage 1 fire restrictions to further curb potential fire hazards.
By advancing these regulations, Carson City aims to safeguard its residents and the precious natural resources within the community, fostering a safer environment for all.
