Carson City is preparing for a day of stormy weather on Wednesday, as the National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning along with rain showers. The hazardous weather conditions are expected to last from 1 a.m. to 10 p.m., with forecasts predicting southwest winds ranging from 35 to 45 mph, and powerful gusts reaching up to 65 mph. Areas along U.S. Highway 395 could see even stronger gusts, hitting up to 70 or 80 mph, while ridgetops may face gusts soaring to 110 mph.
Officials have warned that these damaging winds could uproot trees and down power lines, leading to widespread power outages across the region. Travel could become treacherous, particularly for larger vehicles unsteady in high winds. Additionally, there is concern that winds may dislodge trees in areas affected by the Davis Fire, which could pose further hazards.
Looking ahead to the weather forecast for the week, Tuesday will start partly sunny with a high around 70 degrees and lighter winds. As the weather front approaches, Tuesday night will be partly cloudy, cooling to around 42 degrees, with breezy conditions persisting.
On Wednesday, rain is expected mainly between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., with high temperatures near 58 degrees and breezy winds adding to the conditions. The chance of precipitation stands at 60%. As the evening rolls in, a 40% chance of lingering rain remains.
The weather is set to improve following Wednesday’s storm, with Thursday anticipated to be mostly sunny and slightly warmer, reaching highs near 61 degrees. The later part of the week looks promising, with more sunny days on the horizon, culminating in highs around 70 degrees by Sunday.
Residents are encouraged to exercise caution during the high winds and rainy conditions expected on Wednesday, and to stay informed about the latest updates from local weather services.
