Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is reportedly set to enter the NCAA transfer portal, despite his earlier announcement to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. The decision comes after Beck, who is 23 years old, expressed a desire to play another season in college. Last season, Beck put up impressive numbers, throwing for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, while maintaining a completion rate of 64.7% for the Bulldogs, who finished with an 11–3 record.
His 2024 season concluded prematurely when he suffered an injury in the SEC Championship Game, where he was injured on a sack right before halftime. He made a brief appearance at the end of the game to hand off to Trevor Etienne for the winning touchdown in a nail-biting 22–19 victory over Texas. Subsequently, it was revealed that Beck had torn the UCL in his right elbow, which sidelined him for the remainder of the season, culminating in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal loss to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.
The necessary surgery on his elbow means that Beck will not be able to throw for NFL teams, potentially complicating his draft prospects. As he considers his future, Miami has emerged as a front-runner for his transfer, particularly as they seek a quarterback following Cam Ward’s departure, who had a remarkable single season there and became a Heisman finalist.
In Beck’s absence during critical games, Gunner Stockton stepped up, and he will now compete with sophomore Ryan Puglisi for the starting quarterback role next season. Over his two years as Georgia’s starting quarterback, Beck has demonstrated significant talent, completing 68% of his passes for a total of 7,426 yards and 52 touchdowns across 27 games.
This decision could be pivotal for Beck as he looks to recover and improve his draft stock before eventually moving on to the professional level. The competitive environment at Miami may also provide him with the exposure and experience needed to further enhance his game.
