Carr’s Injury Raises Doubts for Saints’ Future

The New Orleans Saints are facing a potential setback after suffering their third consecutive loss, as concerns arise over quarterback Derek Carr’s health. Carr left the game in the fourth quarter of Monday’s match against the Kansas City Chiefs due to an oblique injury. After the game, he mentioned he would undergo an MRI on Tuesday to assess the situation.

When asked about his condition, Carr replied, “Not good,” and expressed his determination to participate in the upcoming game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, stating, “You know me, I’m going to do anything I can to be there.”

The extent of Carr’s injury is yet to be determined, and it could also affect the Saints’ pursuit of star wide receiver Davante Adams, who recently requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders. Carr has a strong connection with Adams from their time together at the Raiders and Fresno State, and he is also close to Saints wide receivers coach Keith Williams.

The Saints have fallen to a 2-3 record after starting the season 2-0, placing them third in the NFC South behind the Atlanta Falcons and Buccaneers, both at 3-2.

Despite Carr’s presence for most of the game, the Saints struggled offensively. He completed 18 of 28 passes for 165 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. The injury occurred with seven minutes remaining in the game after he was hit while attempting a fourth-down pass. Although initially labeled as questionable to return, Carr did not reenter the game, and backup quarterback Jake Haener finished the contest, which ended with a score of 26-13 in favor of the Chiefs.

Carr explained that the injury happened during a throw rather than as a result of a specific tackle. “I would have done anything to stay out there and keep fighting, but I just, I couldn’t,” he lamented. “So (it) sucks.”
