Helena, Mont. – The Carroll College Cross Country team is set to compete in their second meet of the season at the Tony Banovich Invitational, taking place on Monday, September 9, in Butte, Montana.
In their previous outing at the Bobcat Twilight Meet, both the men’s and women’s teams secured 4th place overall and were the top small school representatives. Zack Gacnik and Hailey Watkins emerged as standout performers, earning the Frontier Conference Runner of the Week accolades for their impressive performances.
For the upcoming Tony Banovich Invitational, Carroll will send a total of 16 athletes, comprising 8 men and 8 women. This event will feature all Frontier Conference teams, offering a glimpse into the competitive landscape of the conference. The Saints previously outperformed Montana Tech at the Bobcat Twilight and will face strong competition from teams at Rocky Mountain College this week.
On the men’s side, the Saints will be without multi-time All-Conference selection Zach Rector, who plans to make his season debut in Missoula on September 20. Additionally, Gacnik will be resting this meet but is expected to return for the competition in Missoula. The women’s team has shown notable depth over the past six years and will field a slightly altered roster in Butte and Missoula to enhance race opportunities for potential Top 7 contributors.
The women’s race is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM, followed by the men’s race at 1:45 PM, both taking place at Highland View Golf Course in Butte.
Live results will be available online.
