Washington — Country music icon Carrie Underwood has confirmed her performance at President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration. An inaugural committee spokesperson shared that Underwood will take the stage to sing “America the Beautiful,” accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club on January 20.
This marks a distinctive shift for Trump’s second inauguration, suggesting that it may feature higher-profile acts compared to his first ceremony eight years ago. In 2017, the inaugural festivities included performances by notable artists such as Toby Keith and 3 Doors Down at a concert held at the Lincoln Memorial, while Jackie Evancho performed the national anthem at the swearing-in ceremony.
This year’s celebration begins on Saturday at Trump’s golf club in Sterling, Virginia. The following day, Trump plans to honor veterans with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery, followed by a rally at the Capital One Arena in Washington, where he will engage with supporters. A candlelight dinner is also part of the inauguration weekend program.
Inauguration Day will consist of a church service and a tea at the White House with current President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, before the swearing-in ceremony. A festive parade down Pennsylvania Avenue and several inaugural balls are also scheduled. Additionally, the Village People have announced their participation, confirming they will perform at various inaugural events, showcasing their popular anthem “Y.M.C.A.” which has become synonymous with Trump gatherings.
This inauguration is shaping up to be a star-studded event, reflecting a sense of celebration and unity, despite the political divisions of recent years. It provides an opportunity for the incoming administration to embrace diverse musical talents and reach out to supporters across the nation.
Overall, as Trump prepares for his second term, there is anticipation surrounding how his inauguration will reflect America’s cultural landscape and the themes of togetherness and patriotism through music.
