The Mexican forward, Carlos Vela, has announced his retirement from professional football in an emotional video shared on his social media platforms.

At 36 years old, Vela began his journey in football in 1993, playing for the youth team of Ko’Cha’Wolis in Cancún. A decade later, in 2003, he joined Chivas. He made his mark on the international stage in 2005 when he represented Mexico at the Under-17 World Cup, garnering attention as one of the nation’s top prospects.

In his heartfelt Instagram message, Vela stated, “Throughout my career, I have experienced very special moments, but the time has come for me to officially retire from professional football. There are not enough words to express my gratitude to my family, all the clubs that gave me the opportunity, and the fans for their support and affection. Thank you. It has been an honor and a privilege to share my career with all of you.”

Carlos Vela enjoyed the majority of his career abroad, having notable stints with teams like Arsenal, U.D. Salamanca, Osasuna, West Bromwich Albion, Real Sociedad, and Los Angeles FC. His time at Real Sociedad in La Liga was especially remarkable, where he formed a significant partnership with French star Antoine Griezmann.

At LAFC in Major League Soccer, Vela became one of the club’s legends, serving as captain, top scorer, and champion. His passion for the game and dedication to his teams have left a lasting legacy in the football world.
