Cargill’s Comeback: WWE’s Shifting Plans and Future Showdowns

WWE had significant plans for Jade Cargill’s title run before an injury in late 2024 altered their strategy. Wrestling expert Dave Meltzer shared on Wrestling Observer Radio that Cargill was slated to win a championship and defend it at WrestleMania 41. He noted that a fitting scenario for the Money in the Bank event would involve Naomi using her briefcase against Cargill, should she become champion.

Cargill was written off television following a backstage attack that aired during the November 22 episode of SmackDown. WWE mentioned a variety of injuries, leaving fans uncertain if they were part of the storyline or genuine setbacks. Her absence from the ring had a profound impact on the championship picture.

Naomi showcased her talent by winning the Women’s Money in the Bank briefcase on June 7, 2025, making history as the first Black woman to achieve this feat. Cargill and Naomi have previous encounters in the ring, with Cargill defeating Naomi at WrestleMania 41, creating a natural foundation for a potential cash-in moment.

Since her return to WWE at Elimination Chamber earlier this year, Cargill has regained momentum by securing a significant singles victory against Naomi at WrestleMania. Her involvement at the WWE Performance Center and commitment to outside projects suggest that WWE remains focused on elevating her as a premier talent.

Meltzer emphasized the storytelling aspect, stating, “The perfect thing for Naomi to cash-in is Jade (Cargill) as Champion… Jade was supposed to be Champion by WrestleMania, and defending it at WrestleMania.”

Cargill’s injury may have temporarily shifted the narrative, but her comeback and continued support from WWE indicate a promising future for her within the organization. Fans can look forward to more dynamic storylines and matches involving these two talented wrestlers.
