The recent interhouse athletics competition at Dudley High School showcased a thrilling contest on Saturday at the HFC National Stadium in Suva. Cargill House emerged victorious, securing a total of 25 gold medals and narrowly surpassing the defending champions, Cross House, which finished with 24 golds. Following closely were Hunt House and Baker House, earning 23 and 22 gold medals, respectively.

Iliesa Navitalai, the athletics coach at Dudley High School, remarked on the heightened competition this year. “This is my third year at Dudley High School, and this year’s squad is different. The competition is more intense compared to previous years,” Navitalai stated. He noted that the school’s boys and girls teams currently hold third position in the zone competition, but he remains hopeful for their prospects.

“We are focusing on middle and long-distance events and trying to improve our field events as well. We’re also switching some athletes to new events to maximize our chances of success,” Navitalai explained, highlighting the strategic efforts being made to enhance the team’s performance.

With the upcoming Suva Zone 1 and Fiji Finals on the horizon, Dudley High School is poised to capitalize on their recent progress, striving to secure even more medals this season and build on their achievements from the interhouse competition. The dedication and strategy reflected in the team’s approach promise an exciting path forward for the athletes.
