The Arizona Cardinals secured a thrilling 17-15 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football, thanks to a last-minute 32-yard field goal by Chad Ryland at State Farm Stadium.
James Conner was a standout for Arizona, carrying the ball 19 times for 101 yards and also making two receptions for 51 yards, including a crucial 33-yard catch that set up the game-winning field goal.
Arizona’s rushing attack totaled 181 yards on 29 carries, while their passing game struggled, amassing only 145 yards with quarterback Kyler Murray completing 14 of 26 attempts. Murray managed to throw for a 5-yard touchdown to Greg Dortch and added a 44-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals’ defense put forth a strong performance, not allowing the Chargers to score a touchdown throughout the game. They forced the Chargers into a field-goal attempt on Los Angeles’ final drive with just under two minutes remaining.
In the end, Murray, aided by Conner, orchestrated a seven-play, 56-yard drive that concluded with Ryland’s decisive kick. With this win, Arizona improved to a 3-4 record, trailing one game behind the division-leading Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West.
On the other side, the Chargers could only manage 15 points, all of which came from field goals by Cameron Dicker, who was perfect on his five attempts. Los Angeles struggled on the ground, recording just 59 rushing yards on 22 carries. Quarterback Justin Herbert had a strong outing, throwing for 349 yards on 27 of 39 attempts.
Despite holding the ball for over 34 minutes and outgaining the Cardinals 395 to 326 in total yards, the Chargers fell to a 3-3 record and will face the New Orleans Saints next week.
The Cardinals will head to Miami to take on the Dolphins in NFL Week 9.
