The Arizona Cardinals recently interviewed Karl Scott, the defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, for their vacant defensive coordinator position, as reported by CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Scott has attracted attention for several defensive coordinator roles over the past two years, indicating his growing reputation in the field.

Since joining the Seahawks in 2022, Scott has been pivotal in developing their secondary, contributing to impressive statistics. Under his guidance, Seattle’s passing defense ranked 10th in the league, allowing just 193.9 yards per game. Furthermore, they ranked seventh in the fewest touchdowns allowed, with only 20 scored against them, and were fifth in interceptions with a total of 18. Scott has utilized the talents of players like rookie safety Nick Emmanwori, who recorded 81 tackles, two and a half sacks, an interception, and 11 passes defensed, as well as veteran Coby Bryant, who added 66 tackles and four interceptions.

Scott’s coaching career began in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021, and he has held various college coaching positions prior to that, including stints at Alabama and Texas Tech.

The Cardinals are actively seeking a new defensive coordinator following the appointment of head coach Mike LaFleur. Other candidates linked to the role include Aubrey Pleasant from the Los Angeles Rams, Charlie Bullen from the New York Giants, and former candidate Dino Vasso from the Houston Texans, who has since withdrawn his name from consideration. The future of Nick Rallis, who led the Cardinals defense for the past three years, remains uncertain following the firing of former head coach Jonathan Gannon.

With LaFleur steadily assembling his coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and other key positions, the Cardinals are keen to solidify their defense as they look to improve their performance in the upcoming season. Scott’s recent interview showcases the organization’s commitment to bolstering their defensive strategies moving forward.
