Cardi B will be stepping in as the headliner for the 2025 Global Citizen Festival, replacing The Weeknd, who has withdrawn due to personal reasons. The much-anticipated festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, at the iconic Great Lawn in Central Park, New York.
In a heartfelt message to his followers, The Weeknd expressed his regret for not being able to perform, stating, “Thank you to my fans for taking action with them, as I believe in their mission deeply. Thank you for understanding and support.” Initially, he was set to perform alongside notable artists like Shakira, Tyla, Ayra Starr, Mariah the Scientist, Camilo, and Elyanna.
Cardi B shared her excitement about taking the stage in her hometown, New York City. “Central Park, I’m coming for you!!! I can’t wait to be home in New York, and to bring my new songs and all the DRAMA to the Global Citizen Festival,” she proclaimed. Highlighting the festival’s mission, she added, “This one’s not like other music festivals — this one is about coming together to help children around the world, and I’m so proud to support such an important cause.”
Hugh Evans, CEO and co-founder of Global Citizen, expressed gratitude for Cardi B’s participation, noting her ability to create unforgettable performances. “We wish The Weeknd support and want to thank him and his fans for all taking action with us to help end extreme poverty,” Evans remarked.
The festival will see Global Citizen ambassador Hugh Jackman co-hosting along with Adam Lambert, Bill Nye, Liza Koshy, and Danai Gurira. Cardi B’s performance coincides with the release of her sophomore album, “Am I the Drama?”, which achieved Platinum status from the Recording Industry Association of America on its release day. Following this, she plans to embark on a 30-date tour called the Little Miss Drama Tour next year.
