Cara Delevingne stars as Sir Elton John in a newly released video for his classic holiday song “Step Into Christmas.” The video serves as a modern behind-the-scenes take on the original, which was released over 50 years ago. Delevingne, 32, mirrors the look of John from the 1973 version, complete with a similar suit and iconic glasses.
“Step Into Christmas” initially debuted in November 1973, reaching No. 24 on the UK Top 40 and topping the Billboard Christmas singles chart.
Expressing her admiration for John, Delevingne shared, “Elton has always been an idol of mine. To say his music has had a deeply profound effect on me is an understatement. To be asked by him to play him in this recreation was a dream that I didn’t know I had until it happened. Honestly, I wish I could pretend to be Elton every day.” She humorously added that she hopes John will reciprocate the favor by portraying her in a future biopic.
The video showcases a production team anxiously preparing a set to ensure it feels festive enough for John’s much-anticipated arrival. John reminisced about their conversation at Glastonbury last summer, where they expressed the desire to collaborate on a project. He described Delevingne as hilarious, and when the idea of having her portray him in the new video emerged, both stars felt it would be a perfect opportunity.
Additionally, John’s documentary, “Elton John: Never Too Late,” premiered on Disney+ on December 13, and he recently launched a new song titled “Never Too Late,” co-written with Grammy-winning artist Brandi Carlile.
This exciting collaboration not only highlights the enduring legacy of “Step Into Christmas” but also showcases the special bond between two talented artists, bringing festive cheer to fans old and new. It’s an uplifting reminder that creativity and friendship can lead to delightful new interpretations of beloved classics.
