Cara Delevingne takes on the role of Sir Elton John in an entertaining new video for his classic holiday song “Step Into Christmas.” This video is a modern reinterpretation of the original, which was released over five decades ago. Delevingne, 32, emulates John’s iconic look from the 1973 version by donning a similar suit and glasses.
“Step Into Christmas” was a notable success upon its release, reaching No. 24 in the UK charts and topping the Billboard Christmas singles chart. Delevingne, who has a close friendship with John, expressed her admiration for him by saying, “Elton has always been an idol of mine. To say his music has had a deeply profound effect on me is an understatement. To be asked by him to play him in this recreation was a dream that I didn’t know I had until it happened. Honestly, I wish I could pretend to be Elton every day.”
In a humorous twist, she jokingly mentioned her hope that John might reciprocate her portrayal by playing a role in her “not yet developed, written, pitched or funded biopic.”
The new video features a production team busily preparing for John’s arrival and ensuring that the set embodies a true Christmas spirit. John shared his excitement about collaborating with Delevingne after they discussed their mutual interest in working together at Glastonbury last summer. He reflected on the decision to cast her in this project, highlighting her humor and infectious spirit.
Additionally, John recently premiered his documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late” on Disney+, and last month he released a new song co-written with Grammy-winner Brandi Carlile titled “Never Too Late.”
Overall, this collaboration between Delevingne and John not only brings a fresh take on a beloved holiday classic but also showcases the magic that can happen when two creative individuals come together. With the festive season fast approaching, this remake adds a joyful and nostalgic charm to the celebrations.
