Cannes Film Festival Day 5: Star-Studded Premieres and Unforgettable Storytelling

The 78th Cannes Film Festival is buzzing on Day 5 with the world premieres of “Die My Love,” featuring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, alongside Richard Linklater’s “New Wave,” starring Guillaume Marbeck, Zoey Deutch, and Aubry Dullin.

“Die My Love,” directed by Lynne Ramsay, delves into the turbulent life of a woman in rural America, torn between love and madness. Lawrence takes center stage with Pattinson playing her devoted husband and LaKeith Stanfield portraying her lover. The film also boasts notable performances from Sissy Spacek, Nick Nolte, and Sarah Lind in supporting roles.

Linklater’s “New Wave” revisits the iconic story behind Godard’s classic “Breathless,” presenting it through a lens that embodies the very spirit of the original. French actor Marbeck captures Godard, Deutch plays the role of Jean Seberg, with Dullin stepping in as Jean-Paul Belmondo. The premiere showcased a star-studded red carpet, featuring Hollywood names like Damian Lewis, Naomi Ackie, Lucien Laviscount, and Quentin Tarantino among attendees.

Additional films making their debut today include Harris Dickinson’s directorial effort, “Urchin,” and Sylvain Chomet’s “The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol.” Raoul Peck’s “Orwell: 2+2=5” and “Le Roi Soleil” led by Vincent Maël Cardona are also newly unveiled.

The illustrious festival continues to unveil a plethora of films, including “La Petite Derniére,” “The Wave” by Sebastián Lelio, and “Bono: Stories of Surrender” from Andrew Dominik. Earlier press conferences featured films like “Sirât,” “Dossier 137,” and “The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo,” highlighting the festival’s vibrant activities.

Upcoming premieres that attendees can anticipate include Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme” with a remarkable ensemble cast, “Eleanor The Great” starring June Squibb and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Spike Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest,” featuring Denzel Washington and A$SAP Rocky.

As the festival progresses, the jury, led by acclaimed actress Juliette Binoche, is tasked with assessing the 21 films in competition for coveted awards, including the Palme d’Or, which will be unveiled during the closing ceremony on May 24.
