Baylor School running back David Gabriel Georges is receiving national acclaim for his outstanding performance during the season. The Red Raiders junior was honored on Tuesday as the national player of the year by MaxPreps.com, following his acknowledgment as Tennessee’s prep player of the year by Rivals.com. Additionally, he secured a second consecutive all-state recognition for Division II-AAA from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.
Baylor coach Erik Kimrey expressed immense pride in Georges, describing him as a “special talent” with no weaknesses. “His God-given ability – speed, power, elusiveness – he can do it all. He can run around you, through you, or by you,” Kimrey said.
Standing at 6 feet and weighing 205 pounds, Georges, who is nationally recognized by his nickname “DGG,” averaged nearly 11 yards per carry, finishing the season with 1,756 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns. His efforts were instrumental in leading Baylor to its second DII-AAA BlueCross Bowl state championship in four years.
Since 2006, MaxPreps has celebrated exceptional high school football talents at the end of each season. Past recipients of the MaxPreps national player of the year include Caleb Downs (2022), Puka Nacua (2018), and Bijan Robinson (2019). Georges now joins an elite group, becoming the first Canadian-born player and only the fourth nonsenior to receive this honor.
The young athlete also made history as the first player from the Chattanooga area to achieve national recognition. He was accompanied by Red Raiders offensive tackle Gabe Osenda and Nashville Christian quarterback Jared Curtis, both of whom also earned spots on the MaxPreps High School All-America team as Tennessee signees.
Despite sitting out two games to manage his health, Georges still claimed the second consecutive Tennessee Titans DII-AAA Mr. Football award. He showcased his skills in the state title game, where he not only earned MVP honors but also contributed 211 offensive yards and two touchdowns, including a pivotal performance during the game-winning drive against Brentwood Academy.
Georges played a key role in Baylor’s memorable undefeated season, which culminated in a 12-0 record. His remarkable performances included a standout game against Georgia’s Rabun Gap, where he rushed for 223 yards and four touchdowns. He also dominated in a high-profile rivalry against McCallie, where he accumulated 280 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a live-streamed national game. In another semifinal rematch, he achieved an astounding 435 yards and scored seven touchdowns, illustrating his exceptional talent and determination.
Coach Kimrey referred to Georges as “a generational talent,” emphasizing his professional demeanor even at 17 years old. This season was not only a personal triumph for Georges but also a thrilling journey for the entire Baylor community.
Currently rated as the nation’s No. 2 running back prospect in the Class of 2027, Georges has attracted interest from over 30 college programs, with official visits planned to Ohio State, Tennessee, Auburn, and Georgia in the coming months. His trajectory continues to inspire, promising an exciting future for this remarkable young athlete.
