The Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Sashi Kiran, alongside Canadian High Commissioner to Fiji, Her Excellency Jennifer Lalonde, extended a warm welcome to Hon. Randeep Sarai, Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, at Nadi International Airport on Tuesday afternoon. This visit marks Hon. Sarai’s first trip to Fiji, where he will spend three days engaging in various activities in Nadi, Sigatoka, and Suva.

Hon. Sarai’s itinerary includes touring multiple Canadian-funded projects and meeting with local partners to strengthen trade and development cooperation between Canada and Fiji. A significant highlight of his visit will be the announcement of the Pacific Women Entrepreneurs as Island Guardians Project for 2024 to 2028. This initiative is designed to empower women entrepreneurs in Fiji, Samoa, and Tuvalu, promoting sustained economic growth in the region.

Furthermore, Hon. Sarai will officiate the inauguration of Canada’s High Commission in Suva later this week, a move that underscores the deepening diplomatic relationships and commitment to regional advancement. During his stay, he will also hold bilateral discussions with senior officials, representatives from the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, and other critical stakeholders.

This visit is a testament to the ongoing collaboration between Canada and Fiji, aiming to enhance economic development and opportunities throughout the region, offering a hopeful perspective on future partnerships and initiatives that benefit local communities.
