Canada has officially designated four transnational extremist and insurgent organizations as foreign terrorist entities, according to a statement released by Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree on Wednesday. This action aims to curb the influence of these groups, which are identified as significant threats due to their ideologically motivated violent extremism that particularly targets youth.
The newly listed entities include the 764, the Maniac Murder Cult, and the Terrorgram Collective. These groups are characterized as transnational networks that promote ideologies leading to violence and radicalization among young individuals. Additionally, the government has classified Islamic State-Mozambique, a regional affiliate of the broader Islamic State organization based in Iraq and Syria, as a terrorist entity.
This move underscores Canada’s commitment to countering the spread of extremist ideologies domestically and abroad. By targeting such organizations, the Canadian government aims to enhance public safety and protect vulnerable populations from recruitment into violent extremism.
