Can Nick Chubb Bounce Back as Texans’ Star Running Back?

Texans running back Nick Chubb has built a reputation as one of the most dynamic ball carriers in football throughout his career. However, as he approaches his 30th birthday this year, questions arise about whether the player who previously electrified the field in Cleveland will be able to replicate that performance in Houston.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans addressed these concerns when asked about the comparison between the current Chubb, who has participated in only 10 games over the last two years due to injuries, and his younger self. Ryans noted that the effects of age and past injuries could impact Chubb’s performance. “You know, guys age. He’s been through a lot,” he said. Nevertheless, Ryans emphasized Chubb’s passion for the game and his strong work ethic. He highlighted Chubb’s physical playstyle and his astuteness in understanding the protection schemes, saying, “He’s helping out the guys,” adding that he is eager to see Chubb back on the field.

Chubb, who underwent a significant knee injury in 2023 followed by a broken foot in 2024, has expressed that he feels great. However, with fellow running back Joe Mixon also battling a foot injury, the Texans are hopeful that Chubb can return to form and carry a substantial workload in the backfield.

Given Chubb’s history and skills, there remains a sense of optimism that he can provide valuable contributions to the team as he continues his recovery. While the road to reclaiming his peak performance may be challenging, the commitment he shows to the game could lead to a successful comeback.
