Can Jonathan Anderson Revive Dior’s Luxe Legacy?

Can Jonathan Anderson bring a fresh spark to Dior? Following a remarkable rise in revenue that soared from €2.2 billion in 2017 to €9.5 billion in 2023, according to HSBC estimates, Dior has recently faced challenges amid a luxury market downturn and global instability. Sales dropped to €8.7 billion in 2024, with LVMH’s fashion and leather goods division reporting a 5 percent decrease in the first quarter, highlighting a polarized market landscape. Fashion analyst Solca emphasized the necessity for Dior’s revival back in April.

Anderson’s recent shows have garnered significant acclaim, hinting at his potential for success at Dior. His Spring/Summer 2025 show for Loewe received a standing ovation, signaling his rising status within the industry. With a keen focus on archives and the illustrious history of Dior, Anderson aims to honor the brand’s heritage, following in the footsteps of legendary designers such as Christian Dior and John Galliano.

Dior has strengthened its leadership team in preparation for Anderson’s arrival, hiring Pierre-Emmanuel Angeloglou as deputy CEO and Benedetta Petruzzo as managing director. Both report to Bernard Arnault, underscoring the commitment to revitalizing the brand.

Despite the challenges of managing both men’s and women’s lines, Anderson is poised to make a significant impact in the couture realm, known for his conceptual shows and a creative spirit. His first couture creations for Dior are anticipated to be unveiled in January 2026, following the decision to skip the upcoming couture season in July due to ongoing commitments.

Arnault confirmed that Anderson’s debut women’s show will be in September, during a pivotal season for fashion. With numerous creative transitions occurring in the industry, Arnault expressed excitement about the evolving visions of different artistic directors. Meanwhile, Anderson’s first menswear show is set for June, while he plans to maintain his role at JW Anderson, albeit in a different capacity.

With fresh leadership and a visionary designer at the helm, Dior appears poised for a promising revival in the coming years.
