The University issued a “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT” alert to its community at 3:05 p.m. today, indicating the presence of an active shooter near Shannon Library. This urgent message prompted immediate concerns among students and staff regarding safety in the area.

By 3:34 p.m., the university communicated that police were still investigating the situation surrounding Shannon Library but noted that there was currently no evidence of an active attacker. A subsequent alert at 3:41 p.m. emphasized the necessity for community members to remain vigilant and adhere to the “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT” protocol.

Earlier at 3:17 p.m., police confirmed their presence on the scene at Shannon Library and announced that access to academic buildings would be restricted to keycard entry only as a precautionary measure.

University Police did not provide further details beyond the initial notification, and a spokesperson for the University declined to comment on the unfolding situation.

This alert marks the first issuance of a “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT” message since February 27, when the University dealt with a separate incident involving a knife attacker near Alumni Hall.

As the situation continues to develop, the University urges its community members to stay informed and abide by safety protocols. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
