Camilla Küver is celebrating a significant milestone in her football career as she receives her first call-up to the senior German national team for the UEFA Women’s Nations League semi-final against France. The 22-year-old centre-back, who plays for VfL Wolfsburg, is part of a quintet from her club, joining teammates Stina Johannes, Sarai Linder, Jana Minge, and Cora Zicai in the squad for the upcoming fixtures scheduled for October 24 in Düsseldorf and October 28 in Caen, France.
In an interview prior to her team’s UEFA Women’s Champions League match against Valerenga, Küver expressed her exhilaration regarding this new chapter. “It’s like a dream come true!” Küver said when asked how it felt to be named a senior international. Reflecting on her journey, she noted how fast things have progressed since she watched the recent European Championship from home, finding it surreal to now be a part of the national team setup.
Küver revealed that she received the call from head coach Christian Wück, who informed her about the exciting opportunity ahead. Despite facing considerable challenges, including a meniscus tear and a cruciate ligament injury that sidelined her for significant time, she has remained steadfast in her ambition to play for the national team. “The senior national team was definitely my goal since I was a little girl,” she stated. “It was also a goal that kept me going through the injuries.”
With the prospect of a packed crowd in Düsseldorf, where 30,000 spectators are expected, Küver is looking forward to the challenge against France. She describes these matches as special and is eager to make the most out of the opportunity, both for her development and to contribute to the team’s success.
Küver’s recent performances have been commendable, proving her as a vital asset in defence. She acknowledged her surprising return to form after her injury, highlighting how fulfilling it is to feel needed on the pitch once again. As she prepares for the upcoming clashes, her determination to help her team progress to the final remains a strong motivator.
This call-up not only marks a personal achievement for Küver but also reflects her hard work and resilience, inspiring many young athletes who dream of representing their country in sports.
