Starting today, January 2, 2025, residents of Cambridge can begin renewing and applying for their Resident or Visitor Parking Permits either in-person at 344 Broadway or online at www.cambridgema.gov/rpp. It is essential for residents to renew their parking permits by the deadline of March 31, 2025.
For those wishing to apply, online renewal for Resident and Visitor Parking Permits has been available since December 1, 2024. Residents are encouraged to complete their renewals by March 2, 2025, to ensure they receive their permits by April 1. The permits are mailed starting at the beginning of the year.
In-person renewals will commence today at the City of Cambridge’s Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department located in City Hall Annex at 344 Broadway. From January 2 to March 31, 2025, residents can use either their 2024 or 2025 parking permits to park in “Parking by Permit Only” areas. Starting April 1, 2025, only the 2025 parking permit will be valid for parking in these designated areas.
To apply for a parking permit, residents need to present proof of residency. This can be done with one utility bill showing the resident’s name and Cambridge address, dated within the last 30 days, or two pieces of mail displaying the same details. For those applying for a Resident Parking Permit, the proof must match the name and address on the vehicle registration. If residents have continued to receive permits at their current address for three or more consecutive years, they do not need to provide proof again.
Additionally, vehicles must be registered in Massachusetts and in the applicant’s name, with the registration reflecting a Cambridge address. The permit fees are set at $25 for both Resident and Visitor permits, which include one Visitor Permit for households with a vehicle. There is no fee for residents aged 65 and older or those with a disability plate or placard. It is important to note that any outstanding parking tickets must be cleared for a permit to be issued.
Residents will need to place their new Resident Parking Permit on the inside lower corner of the driver’s side windshield, removing any previous year’s permits.
In an exciting update for the community, Mary Leno’s photograph of Richard B. Modica Way, also known as “Graffiti Alley,” has won the contest to feature on the 2025 Resident Parking Sticker. This dynamic and artistic location has become a landmark in Central Square, attracting graffiti artists from around the globe since its inception in 2007. Leno described the alley as “a source of daily inspiration,” highlighting the significance of local art in connecting residents and visitors to their community.
This initiative not only ensures parking compliance but also celebrates the creative spirit of Cambridge, reinforcing the importance of art in daily life. Residents are encouraged to participate in the renewal process promptly, ensuring they can continue to enjoy their community with the benefits of their parking permits.
