Beginning today, January 2, 2025, residents of Cambridge have the opportunity to renew or apply for their 2025 Resident and Visitor Parking Permits either in person at the Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department located at 344 Broadway or online at www.cambridgema.gov/rpp. To benefit from uninterrupted parking access, residents are advised to complete their permit renewal by March 31, 2025.
Residents can renew their permits online starting December 1, 2024, and are encouraged to do so by March 2, 2025, to ensure that they receive their new permits by the start of April. For those opting to renew in person, the process is available at the City Hall Annex from January 2 through March 31, 2025. During this period, either the 2024 or 2025 permits will be accepted in “Parking by Permit Only” zones. However, from April 1, 2025, only the new 2025 permits will be valid.
To apply for a Resident Parking Permit, applicants need to provide proof of residency, such as a utility bill or two pieces of recent mail showing their name and Cambridge address. If residents have held a permit at the same address for three consecutive years, they are exempt from this requirement. Additionally, vehicle registration must be in the applicant’s name and include the Cambridge residential address.
The fees associated with the permits are $25 each for Resident and Visitor Parking Permits, with permits available for free to those over the age of 65 or those with a disability plate or placard. It’s important to note that unpaid parking tickets will prevent residents from receiving their permits.
After receiving the parking permit, it should be placed in the lower driver’s side corner of the windshield, and all previous permits must be removed.
In a delightful highlight, Mary Leno’s photo of Graffiti Alley, known for its vibrant street art, will adorn the 2025 Resident Parking Sticker. This lively alley, created in 2007, serves as a canvas for artists from around the globe, making it a celebrated feature of Central Square in Cambridge. Leno described her inspiration drawn from the alley as a “source of daily inspiration,” aligning with the city’s commitment to celebrating its rich cultural tapestry.
This parking permit initiative not only facilitates convenient parking for residents but also reflects the artistic spirit of Cambridge, making it an encouraging development for the community.
