Ilay Camara is convinced that RSC Anderlecht still has a role to play in the title race, despite their current deficit against Club Brugge and Union. Ahead of the crucial match, the right-back stressed that the team is determined to close the gap before the playoffs begin.
“We really want to win, especially to catch up before the points are divided. If we start the playoffs five points behind, no one knows what might happen,” he declared in an interview with RTBF.
Camara highlighted that Anderlecht has several objectives this season, despite the upcoming cup final. “Do you really think the playoffs are out of reach for us just because we’re focusing on the cup? I’m saying there are still ten matches to play, and we’ll be playing all of them, cup final or not,” he asserted. He remains optimistic that everything is still possible in the Jupiler Pro League: “We know the formula in Belgium: everything is decided in the playoffs, so the truth will come to light there.”
This Sunday, Camara faces a tough task against the pacey wingers of Club Brugge, including Christos Tzolis and Carlos Forbs. However, he exudes confidence: “I’m not afraid of anyone,” he stated. Interestingly, he referred to teammate Thorgan Hazard as the best player in the league. “Thorgan scores, he’s in top form and works hard for the team.” Camara concluded the interview with a playful prediction: “We’ll win 1-3, with goals from Thorgan, Nathan De Cat… and me. Scoring against Simon Mignolet doesn’t happen every day.”
