Authorities are conducting an ongoing investigation in Hill County following a troubling incident that led to a “shelter in place” order for the town of Hingham, located approximately 35 miles west of Havre.

The situation began on Friday evening when a 911 call prompted the Hill County Sheriff’s Office to respond. Sheriff Jamie Ross confirmed that the authorities were searching for a suspect, who was apprehended shortly before midnight. After the suspect was taken into custody, the shelter in place order was lifted, allowing residents to feel secure once again.

Local resident Ray Lipp shared insights on the atmosphere during the incident, describing Hingham as a typically calm town where many residents were unaware of the unfolding events. The sheriff’s office cordoned off several blocks, ensuring community safety until the situation was resolved.

Sheriff Ross expressed gratitude for the community’s cooperation during the investigation, which is being supported by agencies from Great Falls, the FBI, and DCI. As the investigation continues, law enforcement has advised residents to avoid the 300 block of Second Street, where the incident occurred, to allow investigators to proceed without interference.

In a positive turn, officials have confirmed that there is no longer an active threat to the community. The heavy law enforcement presence will remain in the area throughout the weekend to ensure safety and conclude the investigation.

More information will be provided to the public as it becomes available. This incident highlights the importance of community cooperation and the swift response of law enforcement in maintaining safety. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels for any updates.
