A grocery store in Stockton has produced a significant winner in the California Lottery’s Scratchers game, with a customer taking home a top prize of $1 million. The winning ticket, a San Francisco 49ers Scratchers, was sold at the Food 4 Less location on March Lane for just $10, making this the largest win of the four recent Scratchers announcements made by the California Lottery.

The California Lottery took to Facebook on December 3 to share the news, not only of the Stockton win but also of several other notable winners across the state. Among these was a $750,000 prize from the Mystery Crossword Scratchers, sold at Hi-Bon Liquor in Bell Gardens. Additionally, two $30,000 wins were reported: one from a Loteria Scratchers purchased at a 7-Eleven in Mill Valley and the other from a Monopoly Scratchers sold at Stater Bros in Anaheim.

This is not the first significant lottery win for the Stockton area. In early November, Rosalba Mendoza Salas won $1 million by playing the 50X The Cash Scratchers, purchased after a quick stop at Corona Liquor. Lottery officials noted that the retailer selling the winning ticket received a $5,000 bonus for their part in the win.

Money generated from the California Lottery plays a crucial role in supporting public education within the state. Since its inception in 1985, the lottery has contributed over $48 billion to California’s public schools. In the 2024-2025 fiscal year alone, more than $1.9 billion was raised, which, while substantial, highlights the need for continued state and local funding as lottery funds are intended to supplement education funding, not replace it.
