A 1-year-old child was discovered abandoned at the site of a car accident in California, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on Tuesday, October 28. Thankfully, the infant sustained injuries but is expected to recover fully.
The incident involved a woman who crashed her vehicle and subsequently left the injured child behind. The CHP’s Dublin office shared the details on their social media, indicating that through a diligent investigation, officers located the pedestrian, later identified as the driver, on Interstate 580 shortly after the crash.
“The saddest part of the incident is that a one-year-old child was left at the scene,” the CHP stated, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. Fortunately, officers were able to make contact with the woman and traced back to the crash site, where they found the injured infant. Both the child and the woman’s relationship remain undisclosed.
While the CHP refrained from detailing the crash’s cause, they took the opportunity to highlight the dangers associated with impaired driving. They noted that driving under the influence poses significant risks not only to the driver but also to innocent bystanders.
The agency warned that impairment can extend beyond alcohol, mentioning prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and cannabis products as potential contributing factors to unsafe driving. The CHP urged all drivers to prioritize safety by making responsible choices while behind the wheel.
The unnamed woman has been arrested and is facing multiple charges, further underlining the consequences of her actions that day. The CHP’s mission remains clear: to ensure safety and service on California roads.
