As fire activity is on the rise due to higher temperatures, lower fuel moisture levels, and minimal precipitation in the forecast, CAL FIRE has announced a suspension of burning permits in Western Trinity County. CAL FIRE Humboldt – Del Norte Unit Chief Kurt McCray expressed gratitude to residents engaging in safe debris burning practices that have contributed to reducing hazardous wildland fuel.

Effective from 8:00 AM on June 17th, 2025, the order prohibits open burning on all state responsibility area lands in Western Trinity County, except within incorporated cities. Campfires in organized campgrounds or private properties will still be permitted, provided they are managed safely to prevent any spread to surrounding wildland areas. For situations deemed critical for public health and safety, restricted temporary burning permits may be issued by authorized CAL FIRE personnel.

Residents are encouraged to take proactive measures to prepare their homes and properties against wildfire threats. This includes clearing 100 feet of dead vegetation around structures, landscaping with fire-resistant plants, and considering alternative disposal methods for landscaping debris, such as chipping or utilizing green waste facilities.
