Caitlin Clark Shines Bright: WNBA’s Rookie of the Year Makes History!

Caitlin Clark, a guard for the Indiana Fever, has made waves in the WNBA by being named the league’s Rookie of the Year. On Wednesday, she also became the first rookie since Candace Parker in 2008 to secure a spot on the All-WNBA first team. Alongside Clark, Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx and A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces were also unanimous selections for the first team.

Joining them are Breanna Stewart from the New York Liberty and Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun as first-team selections this season.

Clark received significant recognition for her outstanding performance, earning 52 first-team votes and appearing on 66 out of 67 ballots cast by a national media panel. She is only the fifth rookie in WNBA history to receive this acknowledgment, joining the ranks of legends like Parker, Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings, and Diana Taurasi.

Throughout the regular season, Clark started all 40 games for the Fever, who finished with a 20-20 record, placing sixth in the league. She averaged an impressive 19.2 points, leading the league with 8.4 assists, along with 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game in 35.4 minutes of play. In addition, she set a league record by making 122 three-pointers, helping the Fever reach the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

A’ja Wilson was unanimously named the league’s MVP, marking her third consecutive selection to the first team and her fourth overall. Napheesa Collier, honored three times as an All-WNBA player, made the first team for the second consecutive year.

The All-WNBA second team features Sabrina Ionescu (Liberty), Kahleah Copper (Phoenix Mercury), Nneka Ogwumike (Seattle Storm), Arike Ogunbowale (Dallas Wings), and Jonquel Jones (Liberty).
